A single or dual-compartment trailer suits short hauls of one product, while a multi-compartment trailer lets you carry several products - different grades of cement or resin, for example - on the same run without cross-contamination.
What should I check before bidding on a used pneumatic or dry bulk trailer?
Inspect hoppers and seams for corrosion or pitting, especially if the trailer has hauled corrosive products like fly ash or lime. On pneumatic units, check the blower/compressor fittings, discharge valves, air lines, and manway seals for wear - a failed seal can shut a load down mid-delivery. On dry bulk units, check the hopper gates and tarp or lid mechanisms. Either way, confirm the axles, suspension, and brakes are rated for the trailer's full payload.
